EXCESSIVE WEIGHT AND CHILD OBESITY

One of the biggest problems in society that has worsened in recent years is related to the obesity rates that are observed among the world population (Alvarez, 2008) and it is also verified that this problem starts at younger ages (Cole , 2000). Overweight means the condition of those who have a Body Mass Index (BMI) greater than 25kg / m2 and obesity as a chronic disease characteristic of those who have a BMI equal to or greater than 30 kg / m2 (World Health Organization, 2002).

Childhood obesity, together with its harmful health consequences, is fast becoming one of the most worrying problems for society (Alvarez, 2008). Because this excess weight and obesity are linked to an excessive accumulation of fat, these realities lead to other problems, namely the increased risk of contracting coronary heart disease, and are often linked to hyperlipemia / dyslipidemia, diabetes, hypertension and arteriosclerosis (Alvarez , 2008). Obesity is even considered a positive cardiovascular risk factor.

Low levels of physical activity and high levels of physical inactivity may have part of the responsibility with regard to the development of obesity, as well as careless eating.
